Fanfiction: A Map of the Soul

Spoilers: post The End of Time, non-canon

Author's Note:

"A Map of the Soul" belongs to a series called: "A Timelord and his madman", from which the first installment was posted in January 2010, directly after the final episode of the 10th Doctor. It is a sort of alternative season 5, in which the 10th Doctor has fortunately survived the events of "The End of time". Wandering alone through space and time in search of the Master (Simm Master), he finally succeeded to save the Master from the Timelock in the first story of the series called "His Silent Mind". Other installments include (In the right order): "Judoon Justice", "A Murderous Feast", "Shattered Worlds", "Before Harry met Lucy", "The Most Happy Bride", and "This Reflection of Me". If you're interested in the rest of the series and don't want to miss out on the Doctor's and the Master's previous adventures, hit the author button on fanfictionnet HERE or visit my website HERE.

In the previous story "This Reflection of Me", the Doctor and the Master have been traveling together as equal companions and friends for the last twenty years. They have recently picked up Donna while they are following the trail of the newly resurrected Rassilon, who has merged his essence with the Tudor queen Anne Boleyn and is using her as a corporal vessel to sustain his existence. The Doctor and his companions end up on Saltsea, a planet where the dominant race of people are once created by the Timelords to guard a terrible secret that lies hidden in the heart of an ancient tomb. We learn that during the great Timewar, the Master, resurrected as the Nightmare Child, was sent out by the desperate Timelord council to defeat the guardians of the tomb and to collect the hidden powers that lay dormant there. After finding out that the treasure he was looking for was actually the essence of Omega, one of the Timelord's founding fathers, the Master quickly decided to claim the prize for himself. His greed and arrogance ultimately led him to his demise, for Omega's lifeforce was too powerful to be contained within the Master's mortal body. In the end, the Master was forced to regenerate and to sacrifice his own Tardis to save his life. His mission a failure and marked by the Timelords as a traitor, the Nightmare Child disappeared from the pages of history.

Now many years later, the Master, who has lost the haunting sound of the drums inside his head, but is becoming increasingly unstable due to the burden of his reawakened conscience, tries once again to gain access to the tomb. The torture he had once suffered by Rassilon's hand has inadvertently made him immortal, so he could now absorb Omega's essence and turn himself into an invincible force to fight Rassilon. However, the transformation was violently interrupted, and the Master died, only to regenerate into one of his previous incarnations, the Nightmare Child (Cumberbatch Master).

Before the Doctor or Donna could lay eyes on his new regeneration, the Master escaped in his rediscovered Tardis. Hell-bent on revenge, he set out to find Rassilon.

This story begins with a flashback to a scene from "Before Harry met Lucy". The Doctor encounters River Song who reveals to him the Ood's ominous prophesy of the future, warning him about the imminent resurrection of Rassilon…and the rise of the Nightmare Child.

Hi there,

I am ready to post the first chapter of "A Map of the Soul" and I've made a teaser poster to go with it!

Obviously, a bit influenced by those flashy dark knight posters, but it kinda works for the new Master. See you tomorrow for the start of the new story.

Cheers

A map of the Soul: Update

Hi Hemlock:  I hope you still did well on your exams. Of course I wouldn't mind if you translate some of my stories into Russian, go ahead! Do please add a link to my blog if you do. I often post a little extra on this site to go with the story so it would be nice if people get to see that. Well as you can see on the cover, the Master is alive, but he doesn't think he has to play by the Doctor's rules anymore, in fact, he's now making his own rules.

I know I should be writing, but I couldn't resist making the cover of the next installment. I had a good week and was able to get so far as chapter 2. So who knows, with a bit of luck I will be able to post the story in late summer. I should stop wasting my time on making eye candy though, but dammed it's so bloody addictive!

Finishing this Chapter and on to the next...

Just finished polishing the last chapter of "This Reflection of me" for tomorrows posting while I was listening to some of the soundtracks of Doctor who season 5. It really makes me sad...I wrote the chapter a week ago, and felt so bad afterwards that I needed to start with the next one "A map of the soul" right away to cheer myself up. I think I now have about enough for the first chapter, so who knows, maybe I will be able to surprise you with a post before the summer is over!

Cheers Alan

Shit shit shit shit. I am really stuck with writing! I am still struggling with chapter 3 and progress is as slow as two snails mating. I wanted to post the first chapter of "This Reflection of Me" in December with 5-6 chapters, one posted each week, but now if that's such a good idea...Luckily Versenaberrie has been busy making a preview trailer for the up and coming fic and she did such a terrific job that I really wanted you guys to see it. So here it is: LINK (trailer 1) and LINK (trailer 2)

Please please please, leave a comment for her, she worked very hard on it! I promise I try to get the story done before Christmas!

This Reflection of Me: Thoughts on writing chapter 2

I've written chapter 1 of this new story this weekend, and it struck me that the Master has become really cold and mean-spirited. I know that some of you were not big fans of Anne and her relationship with the Master, but her loss together with the realization of Rassilon's return has really made a lasting scar on him. The previous two stories were all about how the Master tried to do good, but had failed miserably in the end. In this story, it seems that he doesn't even try any more. The drums have returned and all he's hungering for is taking his revenge on Rassilon. By the time the Doctor realizes this, it is going to be too late.
